Late in D8 - A collaboration with The Goo Magazine

Culture Date With Dublin 8 Festival in association with The Goo magazine presents Late Date In D8, a program of live music and dancing in some of Dublin 8’s best venues.

Arthurs Blues & Jazz Bar has a full program of live music events from Festival kick off on Wednesday May 8th to close on Sunday May 12th, while the famous Rock n Roll bar, The Thomas House, hosts two nights of free gigs featuring bands from Dublin 8’s landmark BIMM Music College.

The Digital Hub hosts a special edition of the wonderful We Love Markets Monthly Craft & Artisan Market on Sunday May 12th, a venue which will host a live performance from the truly brilliant Dublin based Hip Hop/Spoken Word collective Shakalak.

The newly opened Love Tempo bar (co-owned by two of Dublin’s best known club promoters Mother & Hidden Agenda) have a full program of DJ curated events for your dancing pleasure with all events free admission.

Irish Women In Jazz - Arthur's Blues & Jazz Club, Thomas St.

To kick off the Culture Date with Dublin 8 Festival, Irish Women in Jazz hosts a special evening of live music at Arthur’s kicking off with Jennifer McMahon, who blends a storytelling tradition with melodies and harmony from the jazz world and sonic influences from the great jazz and blues vocalists. With originals and some reworked standards, Jennifer will be joined by her ‘Late Hours’ partner, Darren Giles on guitar.Echoverse are a jazz duo featuring Rufina Tishina on vocals and Andrea Jones on tenor saxophone. Echoverse blends traditional jazz standards with original compositions, employing loop pedals to create layered, textured soundscapes.Ehm Trio are a trio of Dublin based jazz musicians who came together through various encounters at jam sessions around the city. They’ll present a selection of tunes dedicated to the hard and post-bop eras. Hayley Kavanagh on sax, Eric Doyle on guitar, Maciej Bliziński on bass.

George Colligan Quartet: Darren Beckett (drums). George Colligan (piano). Stephane Mercier (sax) & Dave Redmond (bass). George Colligan is not only one of the great jazz pianists of his generation, but he has earned an international reputation as a multi-instrumentalist( drums, trumpet, organ, keyboards), composer, accompanist, teacher, and bandleader.

Ten Hail Marys & Dreamboy - Thomas House, 86 Thomas St. Free admission. Dublin based indie band Ten Hail Marys are currently garnering plaudits wherever they play as they offer a classic Indie/Synth sound that features elements of all the greats like Stone Roses and Depeche Mode. Ten Hail Marys made their live debut in a sold out Workman’s Cellar in February 2023 and have performed at Forbidden Fruit, Ireland Music Week and Whelan's Ones to Watch. Dreamboy are a Dublin based shoegazeband who have just released their debut single ‘Crying Wolf”. The female dominated band take inspiration from artists such as Men ITrust and NewDad to Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. They create a dreamy, eerie soundscape with haunting vocals, wistful harmonies and reverb-soaked guitars. Their sonic has a dark undertone and will pull you into their grungy world.

Lifts & Comorant Tree Oh - Thomas House, 86 Thomas St. Free admission.Lifts are a 5-piece art-rock band based in Dublin.Taking inspiration from a wide range of music such as traditional Irish, experimental rock, contemporary classical and jazz, Lifts create a unique blend of music that is as powerful on record as on stage. Their unique live show which combines strong songwriting with unusual arrangements, featuring violins (including a homemade bass viola run through a subharmonic synthesiser), saxophone, and jazz drumming is the product of this recent development and a large part of Lifts' appeal. Cormorant Tree Oh is a multi-disciplinary artist and musician from Dublin who takes inspiration from folk, psychedelia, horror soundtracks and nature field recordings. She has been name-checked by Lankum in the UK mag, Mojo and is a fave of Lisa O’Neill.

Pete Cummins & Ger Kiely & Garvan Gallagher. 4pm - Arthur’s Blues & Jazz Club, 28 Thomas St. Pete will re-imagine some of his songs and also play a special tribute to Bob Dylan with guitar maestro’s Ger Kiely and Garvan Gallagher in cahoots. Bree Harris is the special guest vocalist.

Shakalak are a 5-piece Dublin-based band featuring John Cummins (vocals), Fin Divilly (vocals, bass), Johnny Jude (guitar), Sam Lynch (drum machine/synths) and Padraig Dooney (saxophone). Not only guaranteed to make you dance, Shakalak couple lyrical dexterity with musical brilliance, inspiring creativity and building community wherever they play.
