The Guinness Choir Presents: 'The City Of Our Dreaming' World Premiere
Celebrating 75 Years of The Guinness Choir at St Patrick's Cathedral
Join us for the world premiere of a new Irish work, The City of Our Dreaming, a tribute to Dublin and a centrepiece of the Guinness Choir’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
This special concert celebrates the city’s rich cultural heritage, the origins of The Liberties and Ireland’s vibrant musical tradition. Featuring an original poem by Paula Meehan, commissioned by the choir, and a new choral composition by Seán Doherty, the work brings together poetry and music in a powerful and contemporary reflection on Dublin.
The programme also includes selections from the choir’s repertoire, with performances by Paula Meehan, soloists Leanne Fitzgerald (alto) and Bren Berry (singer-songwriter), under the direction of Ciarán Kelly, in the magnificent setting of St Patrick’s Cathedral.
There will be an after party event at Aloft City Hotel from 9.45pm. See separate listing.
The Guinness Choir was founded in 1951, over 70 years ago, for the employees of the Guinness brewery. It is one of the oldest mixed voice choirs in Dublin and was one of the earliest workplace choirs in Ireland. The choir has since left the ambit of the brewery and is an independent, self-funded, choir attracting amateur singers from all over Dublin and beyond to sing the great oratorios and major classical works as well as the many beautiful choral works from the renaissance, baroque, modern and contemporary eras. Over the years, the choir has given many hundreds of amateur singers the opportunity and privilege to perform these works with professional orchestras and soloists in major venues in Ireland and abroad.
