Festival Archive 2025
The 7th annual Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival took place over five vibrant days, from Wednesday 7th to Sunday 11th May, 2025. Dublin 8 buzzed with energy as more than 140 free and low-cost events unfolded across over 70 locations, offering a rich mix of exhibitions, guided tours, markets, family-friendly activities, talks, walks, and more.
This year’s programme featured several standout moments, including a special celebration of the 250th anniversary of Daniel O’Connell’s birth, marked by the first Monster Meeting of the 21st Century at Goldenbridge Cemetery. We also expanded our popular Late in D8 programme—in partnership with CWB and Dublin City Council’s Night Time Economy Officer—bringing a range of evening and late-night events to some of Dublin 8’s most iconic museums, cultural venues, and neighbourhood pubs.In addition, we proudly spotlighted local Tenters resident and lifelong Dubliner, William ‘Billy’ Mooney, honouring his extraordinary photographic legacy and deep roots in the community.
Festival Programme Launch
The Culture Date with Dublin 8 programme was launched on Wednesday 9th April with a photoshoot in the beautiful surroundings of St Patrick’s Cathedral with the Lord Mayor of Dublin Emma Blain, Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, Louise Cantillon, and Síomha Ní Ruairc from the How to Gael podcast, circus performer Hannah Ryan and the Foley Irish Dance Academy.
“It is my honour to launch the programme for this year's Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival, which celebrates the Dublin 8 area as one of Ireland’s leading cultural destinations. From ancient history to modern art, Dublin 8 is home to some of Ireland's most culturally significant and diverse heritage sites and museums. I’m particularly excited about the series of events honoring Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, champion of equality and dignity and former Lord Mayor of Dublin.”
We held an in-person programme launch later in the evening on Wednesday 9th April at Teeling Whiskey Distillery with a special performance on the night from rising star, local resident, and BIMM student, Calum Agnew.

This year’s Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival proudly spotlighted Dubliner and long-time Tenters resident William ‘Billy’ Mooney, celebrating his remarkable contribution to the visual history of the city through a dedicated showcase and exhibition of his photographic work.
A familiar face in the community, Billy has lived in The Tenters for over 72 years, becoming an integral part of the Dublin 8 landscape. Before retiring, he spent four decades as a photographer with Dublin Corporation, documenting countless civic events and everyday moments—always ready to capture the next photograph for his growing archive.
Today, over 12,000 of Billy’s photographs are preserved in the Dublin City Library and Archive, offering a rich visual record that spans major moments such as the visits of Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa, to intimate glimpses of people and places now vanished.
The exhibition, held at The Bank at The Digital Hub, featured a curated selection of Billy’s work, celebrating the people, places, and milestones of his career. A digital version of the exhibition was also available to view at Aloft Hotel, The Tenters, where festivalgoers could enjoy a special themed cocktail—‘Billy’s Barracks’—created in his honour and offered at a festival discount.
Special thanks to Dublin City Library and Archive, Maria O’Reilly (The Tenters Celebrated Heritage Group), Cathy Scuffil (Historian in Residence, DCC), and Amy Collins and Stephen Coyne (DCC South Central) for their invaluable support.
