Culture Date with Dublin 8 took place on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May 2022.

The programme was launched on 25th April, 2022 by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland with a ceremony at Goldenbridge Cemetery with performances by actresses Mary Murray and Una Crawford O'Brien and harpist Valerie Armstrong.

Highlights of Culture Date with Dublin 8’s May line-up included

  • An outdoor concert at the temple in Goldenbridge Cemetery featuring a performance by harpist Valerie Armstrong and spoken word performances of work by the recently deceased Dublin 8 native, Thomas Kinsella, by actresses Mary Murray, Una Crawford O’Brien and Emmet Kirwan
  • Flagship 'Sing Again' concert by The Guinness Choir at St Patrick's Cathedral and free admission into the cathedral
  • 'Twilight Market' at The Digital Hub, featuring D8 makers and creatives by We Love Markets
  • A D8 lego hunt, featuring significant Irish figures from the library's past at Marsh's Library
  • A Walking Tour of Viking City & Self-Guided visit to Dublinia
  • The launch of ‘Illuminations’ - A Richmond Barracks Writing Group Publication and a children's history workshop 'What was there before Inchicore?' at Richmond Barracks
  • A walking tour 'Dublin 8’s Liberties’ Quarter with the Guinness Archives'
  • Walking tours "With or Without the Walls, The Liberties in Context" and "The Guinness Legacy in the Liberties" by The Liberties Cultural Association
  • A guided tour of The Irish National War Memorial Gardens and Bookrooms
  • Guided tours of The Edward Worth Library
  • Walking Tour of The Liberties by In Our Shoes Walking Tours

Culture Date with Dublin 8 2022 also saw the launch of the new Dublin 8 Cultural Attractions Map and Passport initiative

This year we teamed up with local historian Mark Jenkins who delivered a special series of blog posts highlighting some of the fascinating histories of the area while showcasing the character that makes Dublin 8 a truly unique place.
