Help Preserve The Liberties’ Weaving Heritage: Support a New Oral History Project
The Liberties Weavers have launched Weaving Our Stories, a new community-led oral history project to capture and preserve the stories of Dublin 8's historic weaving and textile industry, ensuring that the voices of those who helped shape the neighbourhood are not lost to time.

For generations, weaving and textile production were at the heart of life in The Liberties, shaping the area's identity, livelihoods and communities. Behind this rich industrial heritage are the personal stories of the people who worked in the trade, whose skills, experiences and memories form an invaluable part of Dublin 8's cultural history.
Through interviews, photography and historical research, Weaving Our Stories aims to document the lives and experiences of those connected to the area's textile industry, celebrating the craftsmanship, traditions and community spirit that helped define the neighbourhood.
The project will bring these stories together in a new publication, Weaving Heritage: Tales from The Liberties, alongside a digital archive of recorded interviews and supporting material. Together, these resources will help preserve the area's living heritage, connect generations and provide valuable educational material for schools, researchers and the wider community.
Help Bring This Project to Life
Working with crowdfunding platform Spacehive and Dublin City Council, The Liberties Weavers are seeking community support to make the project a reality.
The group aims to raise half of the project's costs through crowdfunding, with Dublin City Council matching the amount raised.
Local residents, businesses, heritage enthusiasts and supporters of Dublin 8's cultural history are encouraged to get involved. Every contribution, even as little as €2, can make a difference, while sharing the campaign is another valuable way to show support.
By supporting Weaving Our Stories, you can help ensure that the voices, memories and experiences of The Liberties' textile workers are recorded, celebrated and preserved for future generations.
