A New Home for Dan Donnelly’s Replica Arm at Fallon’s Pub

There was song, storytelling and a very unusual handover at Fallon’s Pub on Monday 19 October, as we gathered to present a replica of Dan Donnelly’s famous arm to the pub.

The evening brought together local history, music and Dublin characters to celebrate the enduring legend of the boxer, and give a piece of that story a new home.

Michael Steen opened proceedings with The Ballad of Dan Donnelly, setting the scene for a night full of stories.

Donal Fallon, author and podcaster behind Three Castles Burning, explored the history of the Dublin pub, placing Fallon’s within that wider story of the city’s social and cultural life.

Patrick Myler, Dan Donnelly’s biographer, shared the extraordinary history of Donnelly’s mummified arm and its journey through the years.

Ger Devine brought another chapter of local history into the room with stories of the Great Liberties Whiskey Fire, before adding his own musical contribution with a song.

The replica’s maker, artist Alan Clarke, was our MC for the evening, keeping proceedings flowing, while the lads behind the bar treated us to a few tunes of their own.

The night culminated in the official handover, with Grace McEvoy of Culture Date with Dublin 8 and Patrick Myler presenting the replica arm to Fallon’s where it now sits in it's new forever home.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, came along and helped make it such an enjoyable evening, and to the team at Fallon’s for welcoming us.

Next time you’re in Fallon’s, don’t forget to look out for Dan Donnelly’s replica arm while you’re there!
