Arthur Guinness – Brewer of The First (Guinness) Pint – Born 300 years ago
Arthur whose signature is on every bottle and can of ‘Porter’ founded a brewery that would one day become the largest in the world. Raised in a bishop’s house in the small town of Celbridge Co Kildare he moved to very different life of brewing in Dublin, a city not for the fainthearted in the mid-18th century. Father and founder of a diverse dynasty - clergymen, politicians, fashion designers, actors and 'society people' who mingled with royalty and pop stars. A name that today conjures up thoughts of both 'The Pint' and 'Wealth' and appears in gossip columns almost more often than the business pages.
