CeLiberties: An Exhibition by Duc Van Pham
Dublin 8–based artist Duc Van Pham presents a new exhibition as part of Culture Date with Dublin 8. Working from his studio in The Liberties, Duc’s portrait practice focuses on people as complex, layered individuals, pushing back against the tendency to reduce identity to a single narrative.
Drawing from his experience working closely with people in later life, his work captures subtle shifts in emotion, presence and character and moments of vulnerability, strength, joy and loss. These portraits are rooted in the Liberties, where the lives of local people unfold alongside the streets, buildings and shared spaces that shape the community.
Interwoven throughout the exhibition are depictions of familiar landmarks including the Iveagh Markets, The Grotto on Meath Street, Thomas Street buildings and the Guinness Storehouse, placing people and place in direct conversation with one another. Together, they form a layered portrait of Dublin 8 that reflects the depth, character and everyday life of the neighbourhood.
