St Catherine's Park and Graveyard

St. Catherine's Park was formerly a cemetery which dates back to 1552. The whole area is steeped in history and is well remembered for Robert Emmet's execution in front of the church on Thomas Street in 1803. Burials ceased in 1894 and the cemetery was handed over to Dublin Corporation in 1969.

The park includes a simple formal layout of paths, some fine trees and a series of 18th and 19th century grave-markers. The sculptural piece 'Adult and Child Seat' by Jim Flavin was installed in 1988 as part of a Dublin Millennium at commission. The east wall is the oldest feature of the park and dates to the 17th century. It was recently conserved by Dublin City Council.

The park is open daily.
