The Mendicity Institution
‘The Mendicity’ is the oldest working charity in Dublin, serving up hot meals daily for people experiencing homelessness alongside a thriving social enterprise creating opportunities to retrain and build skills.
A craft focused wood and metal workshop produces beautiful, budget and custom pieces, while a recently launched coffee truck, Hard Ground, at 9 Island Street serves delicious brews with all proceeds going directly to frontline services. Both the workshop and the coffee truck are run by people who are experiencing homelessness.
Their workshop crafts a beautiful range of window boxes, garden furniture and other decorative pieces using recycled and recovered wood. They also make a range of hand-carved copper art pieces.

The Mendicity Workshop is part of our social enterprise, where we employ and train people coming from homelessness and addiction. We create handmade and unique products in the workshop. Our wooden products such as window boxes, garden furniture and dog beds, are made using recycled wood. We also make copper art, lino prints and greeting cards.
We rely on the sales of these products to generate an income so that we can continue to support people through the workshop. To make a purchase click here to visit our shop.
Employment in the Workshop is offered in partnership with Tus.
