The Blocks – Animated Short Films Screening

Join St. Andrews Community Centre and Rialto Community Drug Team in a celebration of award-winning animation. The Blocks is a community arts and education project run by artists Sadhbh Lawlor and Gary Gowran and facilitator Joanie Whyte working with the Step by Step Family Support group in conjunction with CDETB.

The event will begin with a screening of Part 1 and Part 2 of The Blocks followed by a celebration of community education, self development and local social history. The films document the generational impact of addiction in families by drawing on the lived experiences of the group participants. Alongside representing this difficult issue, they also capture moments in Dublin 8’s cultural and social history from the 1950’s onwards, using creativity and connectivity to find common ground and beauty within the recollections.

In March 2025 the Blocks project won an Aontas Star Award for adult education and we would love for you to join us in this community celebration of the wonderful achievement.
