David Caron, author of Michael Healy 1873–1941, An Túr Gloine’s Stained Glass Pioneer (Four Courts Press, 2023)

Born into grinding poverty and having lived a large part of his life in tenements within the surrounds of Kevin Street, Michael Healy (1873-1941) established himself as a stained glass pioneer, ahead of Harry Clarke and Evie Hone, and key artist in the world-renowned An Túr Gloine studio.

This talk by David Caron will explore Healy’s upbringing in Dublin 8 around Kevin Street as well as the highlights of his stained glass career – windows that convey everything from austere majesty to tender humanity, often revelling in beguiling narrative detail.
