Late in D8: Irish Women in Jazz
Location Arthur’s Blues & Jazz Club, 28 Thomas Street Dublin
To kick off the Culture Date with Dublin 8 festival, Irish Women in Jazz hosts a special evening of live music at Arthur’s Jazz & Blues Club in The Liberties. Come on down to hear original music and some from the jazz canon for fans of jazz and newcomers alike!
Jennifer McMahon is the founder and director of Irish Women in Jazz, a non-profit organisation committed to elevating women in jazz in Ireland. With her roots as a singer-songwriter, Jennifer blends this storytelling tradition with melodies and harmony from the jazz world and sonic influences from the great jazz and blues vocalists. With originals and some reworked standards, Jennifer will be joined by special guest Darren Giles on guitar.
The second set of the night comes from Echoverse, a jazz duo featuring Rufina Tishina on vocals and Andrea Jones on tenor saxophone. Both musicians are active contributors to Ireland’s jazz scene. Echoverse blends traditional jazz standards with original compositions, employing loop pedals to create layered, textured soundscapes.
Our final set of the night features ehm Trio, a trio of Dublin based jazz musicians, who came together through various encounters at jam sessions around the city. They’ll present a selection of tunes dedicated to the hard and post-bop eras. Hayley Kavanagh on sax, Eric Doyle on guitar, Maciej Bliziński on bass.
