Discover the Story of Ireland’s First Credit Union
Join us as we celebrate the story of Donore Credit Union — Ireland’s first and oldest credit union, founded in 1958 in Dublin 8. The Byrne sisters were among the founding members, and in many ways, the credit union was built by women at a time when that was far from common.
Visitors can explore a collection of historical photos and memorabilia, including images featuring familiar faces from the Dublin 8 community. The display also highlights recent milestones such as being the first credit union in Ireland to conduct a Social Return on Investment Study and the creation of the Donore Area Sustainable Community.
