‘Days That Last Forever + Friends Who Never Have To Go Home’ is the debut solo exhibition and limited artist publication release by local artist / photographer Sorcha Frances Ryder. Ryder’s work depicts her first year post-undergrad, as she navigates her trials, triumphs and failures entering the adult world, captured in the mediums of analog photography, screen-printed editions and cyanotype exposures.
This exhibition, accompanied by a limited edition artist publication of the same title, is a tangent of this work, depicting herself and loved ones in brief and sentimental moments of transition, through the empathetic medium of analog photography, each image caught in a brief moment of light and time. Through these works, Ryder not only endeavours to embrace and deconstruct the inevitable challenges and unavoidable experiences of change, but expresses a deep affection for those by her side as they face it together. On a separate tangent from her usual dark, irreverent humour and cynical social critique, in this exhibition, Ryder expresses a tender, more hopeful case for her future.
