This year Culture Date with Dublin 8 is hosting not one, but TWO flagship events for the festival-style weekend long series of family friendly, free activities across Dublin 8 on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th May. Read more about them here...

SATURDAY 19TH MAY - FLAGSHIP EVENT

Outdoor Concert at the Temple - Goldenbridge Cemetery

On Saturday 19th May our flagship event will be an outdoor concert at the Temple in Goldenbridge Cemetery from 3:00pm - 4:30pm. There will be music from St James's Brass and Reed Band, a re-enactment of Daniel O'Connell's Founding Speech and more to be announced. Relax and enjoy the surroundings of this historic and atmospheric site.

In April of this year was the unveiling of a headstone to honour Eugene Lynch, who was buried in this cemetery and was one of the 40 children who were killed in the 1916 Rising. Family Fun Day at The Irish National War Memorial Gardens

Re-enactments - Poetry - Storytelling - Puppetry - Circus Performers and Skills Workshop - Arts & Crafts - Balloon Making & Face Painting

On Sunday 20th May The Irish National War Memorial Gardens will be hosting their annual Family Fun Day from 1:30pm-4:30pm as part of Culture Date with Dublin 8. This event will have a whole series of activities, workshops and re-enactments which will be fun for all the family!

Taking place over the course of the day be re-enactments where you will be transported back to World War 1 and witness for yourself the uniforms and skills of the soldiers and hear about the regiments who fought in the Great War through British army and German army re-enactment groups. There will also be poetry where you can listen to many of the most moving and memorable poems to emerge from the First World War from WW1 poets. You will be invited to enjoy the magic of this family-friendly story sessions with Punch and Judy puppetry and learn new circus skills including Juggling, Hoops and Ball at our circus skills workshop. There will also be arts and crafts workshops throughout the day encouraging everyone to get creative and colourful - a real treat for all the family.
